How does Tarot work?

You will probably get as many answers to that question there are readers. The cards are influenced by your intention.  The human psyche according to Carl Jung lives in three separate parts – the conscious, the personal unconscious and the collective unconscious. The Tarot can be messages your unconscious is trying to get your conscious mind to pay attention too.

How do I choose a deck?

The meanings of the cards can vary from deck to deck.  The Rider Waite Deck (RWD) has loads of resource books and online information.  With some decks you just get a tiny little white book often with very limited information about each card.  It is recommended that if you are just starting out to use the RWD and then branching out using other decks later.

After purchasing a few decks and getting them home and just not connecting with them,  I now do a lot of research before I purchase a deck.  I take it seriously by spending hours on the internet looking at each of the cards, checking on the quality of the deck and the amount of resources each deck offers.  Only then do a purchase the deck.   Choosing a deck takes time and patience but it is worthwhile exercise.

How do I look after my deck?

Looking after your deck with respect is important. Putting your deck in order, Major Arcana and the suits, Cups, Wands, Swords and Pentacles is important firstly, to make sure all the cards are there it has been known for the odd deck not be complete so it is worth checking. Secondly, it is also a great cleansing ritual for your cards. So make it a regular part of your practice when caring for your cards. In fact, I keep the decks that I am not using in this order so they are clean and ready to use whenever I need them.

The best way to store your decks is in a natural fibre fabric, such as silk, cotton, velvet, or even leather either wrapped up or made into bags or pouches. Shuffling the tarot deck regularly and also before and after readings are another great ritual to cleanse and purify your cards. It gets rid of the negative energies and replaces them with positive ones.

How do I get the best results from my reading?

One of the critical aspects is in the question you put to the Tarot.  Setting your intention and asking the right question focused on you the client.  Often there can be an exchange of email to ensure the questions are focused and detailed to gain the clarity and insight you might be seeking.

How do I choose a tarot card reader?

There are lots of Tarot readers out there and each will have their own style and ways of working with the cards. You will need to find one that resonates with you.  If they have a website spend some time on it and read their FAQ and make sure they have a Code of Ethics and read it carefully.  The Code is a great guide to get a sense of what type of person the Tarot reader is and if it resonates with you.

What type of deck do you use for your readings?

I use the Rider Waite Deck principally for my reading.  Occasionally, I also use the Gaian Tarot especially if a client is asking a personal question.

Do you use reversed cards?

I do use reverse cards.  When shuffling the cards I split the deck into three piles using my left hand and then when putting the pile back into one again I reverse one of the piles.  Reverse cards can give you insights what is going on in yourself internally, or the opposite of the right way up.  It can give you a greater depth of meaning in your reading.

Do you do phone or personal readings?

My readings are predominately done in writing.  I am happy to do Skype readings at a mutually convenient time.  Local phone calls can be arranged.  Personal readings can also be organised.

Can I ask a question about the reading afterwards?

Yes, I am only too delighted to answer any questions in regard to your reading.

Refunds will only be provided upon mutual agreement when the actual Tarot reading has not been performed. For example, if you and I cannot agree on the question or the Tarot spread and I have not commenced the actual reading.
